Archduke Charles
China
1837
The blooms of `Archduke Charles' are very much like `Cramoisi Superieur': cupped and dark crimson in the fall and winter. China roses, unlike the other classes of roses, fade darker instead of lighter. In the fall and winter, these blooms are bi-colored; in the heat of summer, they are dark red. `Archduke Charles' makes an excellent hedge. It grows from 3-5 feet tall. Like all China roses, it is an excellent choice for warmer zones.

Bred in France by Jean Laffay in Bellevue-Meudon, near Paris in 1837.
